Gleðilegt ár! - Happy New Year!

We played tourists the last few days, entertaining Diane - I hope.  First we drove west, starting with old farm Keldur...:

... and then Leirubakki Hekla exhibition, ending with shopping in Selfoss.

The next day we went east. It was a beautiful, sunny day at Eyjafjöll...

...as you can see here...

...but a few minutes later, when entering Vík, it looked like this:

Vík - séð að ofan

And the most unexpected things impress tourists:

Black sand!Svartur sandur - og snjór

She had never seen black sand on a beach!!!

(Of course to me it looked more white with snow)

On the other side of the mountain the sun was still shining...

Vík

but in most directions the view was like this.

I could never understand why tourists wanted to go to Vík, but I guess it is the black sand and bad weather. Being in the tourist business, I needed to know these things. Next time we will go further. On the way back we stopped at the glacier, so that Diane could say that she walked on a glacier and then we visited our friend Annika and got to taste all the delicious cakes and cookies she presented.  Thank you Annika!
